If you bought your elliptical trainer new, an instructional manual should have come in the box with it. The manual should be able to guide you through the motions, safety measures, tension levels and all of the various bells and whistles. Then, when you’re more comfortable with using the machine, you can start adjusting the tension and speed.

Try An Elliptical At A Gym

If you want to learn how to use an elliptical quickly, check out other people using them at the gym and emulate their movements until its second nature. It’s also a great environment since you can always get a trainer’s help or supervision. They can instruct you on everything from how to achieve and monitor your target heart rate, how to work specific muscle groups and, most importantly, how to avoid injury.

You can also skip the gym and the manual and buy an instructional video to watch instead. This is especially useful for visual learners who like to be shown how to do thigns. As a matter of fact, if you’ve purchased a higher end elliptical trainer, you probably got an instructional video with your equipment. Watching a video, if it’s well produced, is actually about the same as having a personal trainer show you how to get the most out of your elliptical machine.

Regardless of how you choose to inform yourself on how to best utilize elliptical trainers, be sure that you do so that you can get the most rewarding workout possible.
