Easy Anti Candida Diet Tips
Two words often associated with the anti Candida diet are confusing and frustrating.
Most start the diet full of enthusiasm, only to fall into the pits of despair when they see how little they are actually allowed to eat!
You may find that there are several programs to follow but they have differing opinions as to what you may or may not include in your diet e.g. carbohydrates, dairy and nightshade fruitscould or could not be acceptable.
This is because there is no such thing as a defined ‘Anti Candida Diet’. All we have is a way of eating that has removed the foods that the Candida fungus lives on.
Some programs take it one step further and remove all foods that we could be sensitive to as well – so a large part of your success on the diet comes down to how far you want to go with it.
Tip 1 – Part one of an anti Candida diet
Phase One is the first two to four weeks of the diet and it is this part that gets everyone in a spin. Here all foods containing sugar, mold, wheat, gluten, carbohydrates, dairy, starches and preservatives are removed.
To put it simply – all you are allowed are leafy green vegetables, broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts, celery, cucumber, zucchini, silverbeet, peppers, chicken, fish, omega oils, nuts and seeds.
Tip 2 – Maybe foods for an anti Candida diet
This is where some confusion comes in because some plans say that it is OK to eat foods like low sugar fruit, cottage cheese and whole-grains right from the start.
The best advice here is to go with what you feel is OK and do your best. If you get any reaction whatsoever from anything then immediately stop eating it for two weeks.
Tip 3 – Start to use a diary
During an anti Candida diet we end up taking so many supplements and introducing so many foods that a food diary is really handy just to keep track of it all.
Tip 4 – Introducing foods
Start slowly – one serving a day – with really easily digested foods like whole grains, low sugar fruits, carrots, legumes. The important part with this is to look for any reaction at all. If you do get a reaction then remove the food for another two weeks.
Tip 5 – Cravings
There are many things that can cause food cravings, from hormones, mineral imbalances, blood sugar levels and Candida.
The best idea here is to question all cravings and ask yourself whether they really are a need or a ‘want’. If you decided that it is a ‘need’ then still wait 5 minutes before eating it – this usually works – believe me!
