Boost Your Metabolism
“Why do some foods make you fat while others make you thin?” I’m sure you have asked yourself that question before. Eating foods that speed up metabolism is a concern that is on the minds of many people. This problem is due to the fact that the foods that make you fat get converted to fat quickly and with little energy. Foods that speed up metabolism are usually foods that take more time and effort to digest and therefore make your thinner.
Keeping this in simple terms, we’ll call these foods that speed up metabolism “negative calorie foods”. What happens when you eat these foods is you create more work for your body during the digestion process. The reason why your body works hard and why the food takes longer to digest is because they are made up of fibrous substances that the body cannot easily digest.
The broken-down version: Your body burns more calories than the total amount of calories you consumed in a meal. That means you’ve created enough energy to burn off the calories from the food you ate IN ADDITION TO stored body fat! That is how food can speed up your metabolism. Here’s a real-life example.
Say you eat 50 calories of fruits or vegetables and your body burns 105 calories during digestion. That means you burned all 50 calories from your food PLUS 55 calories stored as fat around your body. The result is a surplus of calories lost.
For most of everyone, the opposite is more true. We enjoy a rich chocolate brownie that contains 240 calories but because it’s so easy to digest the sugar, our body only uses 75 calories to do so. Now we have GAINED 165 calories that will be stored on our bodies as fat just in case it needs it for fuel later. So unless you work out on a regular basis to burn up those calories faster, they’re going to collect around your waistline and create a bulging midsection.
You can easily search the internet and find lists and lists of negative calorie foods to add to your meals. Make these foods that speed up metabolism a part of your menu everyday and you will begin to see and feel the natural changes that will happen to your body.
